Dotychczasowe poszukiwania adekwatnej teorii świadomości rzuciły światło na jej złożoną naturę i pozwoliły wyodrębnić kilka różnych jej odmian (aspektów lub poziomów). Ambitne i nieredukcyjne podejścia zainteresowane są przede wszystkim rozróżnieniem na świadomość dostępu i świadomość fenomenalną. Wydaje się jednak, że dla pełnego zrozumienia świadomości ważne są również inne pojęcia świadomości. Celem artykułu jest prezentacja następujących rodzajów świadomości: (1) świadomość nieprzechodnia, (2) świadomość przechodnia, (3) samoświadomość, (4) świadomość fenomenalna, (5) świadomość funkcjonalna (dostępu), (6) mentalne stany (a) zachodzące i (b) ukryte. Rzeczone odmiany świadomości uzupełnione zostały krótką prezentacją nieświadomych stanów mentalnych.

Filozofia analityczna liczy już ponad sto lat. Wciąż jednak nie ma porozumienia co do tego, czym ona jest: ruchem, szkołą, nauką, stylem, metodą. Próbowano ją zdefiniować na wiele różnych sposobów, m.in. w oparciu o takie parametry, jak: język, położenie geograficzne, przedmiot, zbiór założeń i przekonań, metody badawcze lub w oparciu o stosunek do: (a) historii, (b) logiki, (c) metafizyki oraz (d) nauki. Niektóre propozycje definicji analizuję w tym artykule. Staram się pokazać, że zwykle są one niezadowalające: zbyt wąskie lub zbyt szerokie. Jako najbardziej ekonomiczne i owocne proponuję określenie filozofii analitycznej w oparciu o ideę rodzinnego podobieństwa. Tak czynią m.in. A. Stroll i H.-J. Glock. Propozycja tego ostatniego wydaje się bardziej wyrafinowana i za nią się tutaj opowiadam. Biorąc pod uwagę złożoność i nieustanny rozwój filozofii analitycznej, zaprezentowane rozwiązanie wydaje mi się optymalne

The aim of this paper is to present Martin Heidegger’s view on intentionality. We start from initial observations on the phenomenon of intentionality (here we refer to four possible concepts of intentionality: mentalistic, linguistic, pragmatic, and naturalistic) and a few remarks on the fundamental ontology of Heidegger. Then we show what intentionality is not for Heidegger: first, it is not an objectively existing relationship between two entities and, secondly, intentionality is not the subjectivity of the subject; and we specify what intentionality is: in Heidegger’s ontology, intentionality is closely related to the transcendence of being-in-the-world. Transcending – the constancy in crossing – Dasein enables it to refer to itself, other conscious beings, and, in general, all present entities. We have shown that none of the above concepts of intentionality (mentalistic, linguistic, pragmatic, and naturalistic) is not congruent with the interpretation of Heidegger, which concentrates on the following issue: how to go beyond the traditional understanding of intentionality and reach a more basic form of experience.

In the first part of the article I discussed some of the contemporary (philosophical) concepts of emotion: the feeling theory, the cognitive theory (with a propositional variant), the attitudinal theory, and emotions as construals. Most philosophical theories of emotion look at the main component or two main components of an emotional episode. Some theories take into account many components (multicomponent or hybrid theories). I use the latter. In the second part I analyzed emotions as compound intentional states: 1) cognition and appraisal; 2) the physiological aspect; 3) the neurological aspect; 4) feelings; 5) a tendency to act, and 6) expression.

W artykule koncentruję się na własności intencjonalności stanów emocjonalnych. Rozważam trzy zagadnienia: (1) Czym dokładnie jest intencjonalność emocji? Główny problem z odpowiedzią na to pytanie tkwi w różnorodnym podejściu do emocji i w wielości ujęć intencjonalności. (2) Czy subiektywne odczucie może być intencjonalne?  (3) Wreszcie podejmuję problem przedmiotu odniesienia emocji.

The current discussion of the intentionality nature has become more sophisticated and complex. In this paper I will delineate a number of approaches to intentionality in contemporary philosophy: 1 mentalistic; 2 semantic/ linguistic; 3 pragmatic; 4 somatic; 5 and naturalistic. Although philosophers identify and analyse many concepts of intentionality, from the author point of view, there is only one intentionality: mentalistic intentionality (conscious mental states are intentional). Furthermore, there are the pre-intentionality in the physical world and the meta-intentionality (or the derived intentionality) in the world of culture.

In the paper I consider some selected components of Luciano Floridi's Philosophy of information: (1) the method of abstraction levels, (2) the general defi nition of information, (3) the strongly semantic approach to information, (4) the informational a nalysis of knowledge. Floridi's Philosophy of information is an important, ambitious and influential project. But it contains weaknesses, also. In this article I put forward three objections: (1) the use of vague terms ('data' , 'diaphora') in the defi nition of key categories of information, (2) the theory of semantic information (strongly semantic information theory) based on truth-values – semantic information should not be true, (3) philosophy information as a fi rst philosophy – the bold project but not to achieve.

Critical thinking is an important part in education at colleges and universities in the United States of America. Some scientists propose also to introduce such a discipline at universities in Poland. In this paper I argue that it is not necessary because in our country there is a well-established tradition of logic – more precisely, pragmatic logic. The objectives of pragmatic logic cover mainly the objectives of critical thinking; it is primarily about the development of clear and effective thinking, based on rational argumentation, too. Also, the subjects related to pragmatic logic largely coincide with the subjects of critical thinking. Hence, a textbook of Critical Thinking in Poland should be called ‘pragmatic logic’. Nonetheless, there are no obstacles to use the Americans' experience and knowledge in this field in Poland.

In the paper I examine the three aspects of Ronald de Sousa’s philosophy of emotions: intentionality, objectivity, and rationality of emotions. In the beginning, I put up the basic question, how he sees emotions? De Sousa argues that emotions are a kind of perception (perception of axiological properties). At the same time he defends an objectivist approach to emotions. It implies that emotion apprehends something in the world that exists independently of us. The fundamental question, how emotions relate to their objects, leads to the inquiry on the intentional structure of emotion and, then, to the study of the truth of emotion. Finally, I reconstruct a very important study concerning rationality: cognitive rationality, strategic rationality, and axiological rationality. The latter one is specific to the emotions.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest problem związku emocji z procesami decyzyjnymi. Nie istnieje jedna obowiązująca wszystkich definicja emocji czy decyzji, najpierw więc objaśnię, jak pojęcia te będę tutaj rozumieć. Następnie przedstawię krótko genezę i rozwój problemu „emocje a podejmowanie decyzji” oraz, korzystając z dorobku tych, którzy przez lata zajmowali się tym tematem, omówię wybrane aspekty rzeczonego problemu

There is a popular claim that rationality should be reformulated from time to time. Here I argue that the meaning of human rationality must be considered one more time, because the dichotomy between the intellect and emotions is deceitful: the intellect, responsible for rational thinking, can be emotional, and emotions can be rational. In the paper I examine the role of emotions in the following types of rationality: 1. ecological rationality, where S is rational iff S is acting in accordance with its nature, i.e. iff its activity is adapted to the environment in which S lives; 2. causative rationality, where S is rational iff S’s action is appropriate to the reason that causes it; 3. teleological rationality, where S is rational iff S’s action is purposeful; and 4. effective rationality, where S is rational iff S’s action aims to optimize results.

The paper undertakes the analysis of the methods of spiritual growth, called the paths of Yoga, presented in Bhagavadgītā, a philosophical episode of the greatest Indian epos Mahābhārata. It starts with a short characteristics of two most popular methodological strategies used to analyse the Sanskrit text, namely diachronic and synchronic. The researchers who accept the first method stress the incoherence of the work caused by its multilayer structure and many historical interpolations being included in the course of the prolonged editorial process. Whereas the supporters of the synchronic strategy strongly point to the arguments in favour of the coherence of the philosophical conception of development discussed in Bhagavadgītā. The author of the present paper, who argues for the later method, aims to interpret the question of multiplicity of the yogic paths. In the subsequent points, she explains some specific methods suggested by Kṛṣṇa, like Sāṃkhya, Yoga, Karmayoga, Jñāyoga, Dhyānayoga and Bhaktiyoga. While doing so she tries to justify the belief about the existence of a complex multistage method of Self-development, which combines all other, seemingly optional and rival, yogic methods that are ultimately subordinated to the highest instance: a cognitive insight (jñāna) or spiritual wisdom (sthitaprajñā).
